Pride in Surrey are delighted to announce the relaunch and relocation of Pride Hub, their LGBTQ+ community centre and events venue.
Following the success of Pride Hub, which first opened in 2020, Pride in Surrey have announced that the venue will be re-opening in Egham High Street later this year. The new venue will create a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community in Surrey, providing a place for people to work, socialise and enjoy events alongside drink and snack options.
Earlier this year, Pride in Surrey held a public consultation for LGBTQ+ residents in Surrey, receiving some amazing feedback about what people wanted from a local LGBTQ+ venue. The consultation was completed by more people in Runnymede than any other part of Surrey. This, alongside the recent census data which showed that Runnymede had the highest proportion of LGBTQ+ people in Surrey, influenced the decision to bring the Pride Hub to the wonderful town of Egham.
Charlie Watts, Pride in Surrey Chief Executive, says: “Over the past 4 years, Pride Hub has demonstrated a real need for LGBTQ+ safe spaces in Surrey. It’s important to me that we develop Pride events and venues where people can come together and feel a sense of belonging. We are taking everything we created in Woking, and cranking it up a notch with Egham. We are very grateful for the support and encouragement we have received so far from local Councillors. We are really looking forward to re-opening Pride Hub in Egham.”
In a statement, the four Co-Leaders of Runnymede Borough Council said: “We’re pleased to welcome Pride in Surrey to Runnymede. The 2021 Census showed our borough had the highest proportion of LGBT residents in the county and Pride’s decision to relocate and expand into Egham demonstrates what a welcoming place this is.
“One of our central missions is to create an environment locally which supports both the health and wellbeing of our community; having the Pride hub team choose to come here demonstrates we’re on the right track. We’re glad to welcome the team and we encourage anyone who might need or want to use their services to get in touch.”
The new Pride Hub is a substantially larger venue than their previous space in Woking, which was vacated earlier this year as a result of structural issues with the building. The Egham location provides greater opportunities for Pride in Surrey to create year-round events showcasing LGBTQ+ talent, as well as provide creative and life skill workshops and a place to find out about local and national support services. These offerings will be driven by the community feedback received through the 4-week public consultation.
The new venue is located in an ideal space on Egham’s High Street, close to Egham train station with ample local parking options. It is set to open this autumn following Pride in Surrey’s 5th anniversary event in Guildford.
Runnymede Borough Council’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy focusses on supporting the ‘wider determinants of health’ which include individual lifestyle factors as well as social and community networks.
